Locus*

Based in the vulnerable Madrid district of Puente de Vallecas, Locus* (@proyectolocus) is a project that explores the confluence of culture|community mental health. It subverts the concept of “place of safety” -which in hegemonic psychiatry is related to spaces of police containment and health- through diverse contemporary creative languages and vindicating the coexistence with madness based on mutual support.

Locus* is a pioneer in the Spanish territory as far as “Crazy Culture” is concerned. Since 2019 and until today, it receives the main support of entities such as Medialab Prado, Fundación “la Caixa”, Madrid Salud, La Casa Encendida, the Ministry of Culture and Sport, the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training or the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía.

From the digital point of view, its relevance stands out for: (1) subverting the concept of “place of safety” by also transforming their main social network into an accessible and careful communication medium and meeting space using the hashtag #saludmental and (2) more particularly, for www.proyectolocus.org, the digital curatorship of the Art for Change “la Caixa” process exhibition -of which they were beneficiaries in 2019-, which had to be translated into digital language due to the various affectations of the Covid-19 crisis.

Locus* is a project produced by the cultural association Nada Colectivo (@nadacolectivo) and managed by a transdisciplinary motor team living with psychic suffering: Ana CSC (Vallecas, 1993. @anaxcsc), Francesca Alessandro (Catania, 1990. @francesca.less) and Iris Sofia (Agadir, 1995. @irisofia__).”
