Associació Expansió de la Xarxa Oberta (exo.cat)

In 2010, a group of people linked to the Guifi.net project in Barcelona decided to find the Open Network Expansion Association (eXO) to promote open telecommunications networks, technological sovereignty, a reduction of digital acessibility inequalities and an access to wholesale Internet services. Since then, the association has been actively involved in providing Internet access to its members and has maintained and expanded a large part of the existing network in Barcelona. eXO is in the Register of Associations of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Registry of European Internet Operators (RIPE), and the Registry of Telecommunication Operators of the State.

As a non-profit organization, it bases its activity on the work of volunteers and professionals from different ICT sectors. It aims to offer a cost-oriented Internet access service, i.e., providing users with the lowest possible costs and the least possible dependence on large corporations. Internet access is provided through the exchange spot that the eXO occupies through the Private Foundation for the Free and Neutral Network Guifi.net of the Free Zone. It also makes use of carrier services from wholesale operators.
