Abel Azcona

He was born on April 1, 1988, as a result of an unwanted pregnancy, at the Montesa Clinic in Madrid, an institution run by a religious congregation for people at risk of social exclusion and destitution. His mother, a young prostitute and polydrug addict named Victoria Luján Gutiérrez abandoned him in the maternity ward a few days after his birth. The authentic figure within European contemporary art, he was chosen as the best international performance artist according to the English press in 2014. All his works created from performance to installation, video, or photography involve a social and political positioning. With more than two hundred exhibitions, he is considered one of the most prolific artists and has been given the nickname of “enfant terrible of Spanish contemporary art.”
